Everlast Worldwide Inc., manufacturer, marketer and licensor of sporting goods and apparel under the Everlast brand name, today announced the signing of a licensing agreement with Johannesburg, South Africa-based Big Brands for the development of a line of Everlast men's, women's and children's apparel. The products produced by Big Brands will be distributed throughout South Africa and are scheduled to be launched in fall 2005.
George Q Horowitz, Everlast chairman and CEO, said, “South Africa is a key growth market for us. Boxing is an important sport in South Africa and Everlast is a widely known and respected brand in the country. The lines produced by Big Brands expand our presence in South Africa and will complement our licensed footwear products.”
Big Brands managing director Gary Kaplan added, “With its distinctly American image and given South Africa's heritage in boxing, our Everlast apparel lines will be enthusiastically received by our consumers. We look forward to a successful launch of our products and to further enhancing the brand's stature in South Africa.”
Mr. Horowitz concluded, “Licensing continues to be a cornerstone of our brand-building strategy as we seek to capitalize on the tremendous level of consumer awareness that Everlast enjoys throughout the world. Since our acquisition of Everlast a little over four years ago, we have signed 65 licensing agreements, expanding both our product line as well as global footprint. We will continue to seek additional opportunities throughout the world and are in negotiations with a number of potential licensees.”
